How To Track Swine Flu Online
The swine flu is stirring up lots of media attention and Mashable.com is again on the ball. Mashable posted an article talking about how to track swine flu, a very insightful and useful post. Personally I feel it is a little overblown, but that is merely my opinion. The Internet gives you the ability to track swine flu and other outbreaks of disease quite easily. Here are some resources you should use to track these potential pandemics.
Go Right To The Source
The WHO (World Health Organization) is the world’s leading disease information center. They have the most current, reliable and trusted information on disease outbreaks and pandemics across the globe. The WHO Disease Outbreak News Center might be worth putting in your RSS.
Setup Google News Alert
Google News Alert is a very handy tool for many different things. Setup a Google News Alert here and use the keywords ‘swine flu’. Google will send you all the latest news from all over the net as it is published. Very cool!
Map The Swine!
HealthMap.org is a fantastic site for tracking disease outbreaks world wide. HealthMap monitors and aggregates news feeds from the WHO, Google News and other services. You can easily break it down by what kind of disease you searching for and even a time frame. All the tabs are visually displayed with links to more information on the outbreak. Love this site!
Another user has started mapping confirmed and suspected swine flu cases via Google Maps. Check out his mapping project here. It offers a good visual interface for where the disease is at and if viewed over time, an idea of where it is spreading.
